My Answer Is Yes

Luke 1:26 NLT

26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee,

John 1:26 NLT

26 John told them, “I baptize with[a] water, but right here in the crowd is someone you do not recognize.

Nazareth

God's choice of Nazareth to be the birth place of Jesus reveals that He IS the savior of the entire world.

Luke 1:27 NLT

27 to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David.

Mary was a betrothed virgin, (2nd stage) waiting for the celebration of her vows and the consummation of her marriage with Joseph.

Luke 1:28 NLT

28 Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings,[a] favored woman! The Lord is with you![b]”

Favored = God's grace has been bestowed upon her.

Luke 1:29 NLT

29 Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean.

Luke 1:30 NLT

30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God!

You are an overcomer...you are more than a conqueror...you are the head and not the tail... you are His masterpiece...you are chosen...you are highly favored by the Creator of the world.

Luke 1:31 NLT

31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.

Jesus = YHWH Saves

Luke 1:32-33 NLT

32 He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. 33 And he will reign over Israel[a] forever; his Kingdom will never end!”

Luke 1:34 NLT

34 Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”

Luke 1:35 NLT

35 The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:36-37 NLT

36 What’s more, your relative Elizabeth has become pregnant in her old age! People used to say she was barren, but she has conceived a son and is now in her sixth month. 37 For the word of God will never fail.[a]”

Luke 1:37 TPT

37Not one promise from God is empty of power. Nothing is impossible with God!”

Gabriel gives confirmation to Mary (and as a result to us) that God works yesterday, today, and tomorrow in unexpected and in supernatural ways.

God CAN DO the IMPOSSIBLE!

Luke 1:38 NLT

38 Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.

I am the Lord’s servant = I willingly commit myself to the unconditional service of the Lord. I surrender.

Declaration:

As a disciple of Jesus, I will trust and believe what the Lord says. I will obey His Word, and I believe that God my Savior was born of a virgin. He is mighty, holy, and merciful to all generations. I will walk in His promises and seek wise counsel.

Talk It Over 2/25/24

My Answer Is Yes

1.What was your biggest takeaway from this weeks message? What is one specific thing that God is speaking to you through this study?

2.What are some characteristics of Mary that stand out to you and why? Why do you think God chose her? Put yourself in her shoes, what were some possible issues that might come up in Mary’s life when she submits to God’s plan?

3.The angel Gabriel was sent to let Mary know that she found favor with God and would give birth to Jesus. After a question or two, she replied, “I am the Lord’s servant, let it all be as you say.” For Mary to say “I am Your servant” is a great sign of surrender. For Mary to have such a great surrender, it meant she would need to trust God with her entire life. Thinking about surrender: where, how, or what do you want/need to surrender to God in this season of your life? What is holding you back from such surrender? Why is it so hard to surrender ALL of our lives to God?

4. Read Isaiah 9:6-7 & then read Luke 1:21-33. Isaiah prophecies who Jesus will be and the angel gives a four-fold prophetic message about Jesus. When you read these verses, what part about the prophecy are you most looking for in Jesus?

Declaration: As a disciple of Jesus, I will trust and believe what the Lord says. I will obey His Word, and I believe that God my Savior was born of a virgin. He is mighty, holy, and merciful to all generations. I will walk in His promises and seek wise counsel.
